The Faire Chamber

The Faire ChamberThe windows on the left of this picture has a wonderful view overlooking the village, toward the Cheviot hills.

Furnished with Louis XV and XVI style chairs and a sofa with chairs that carry the crest of the Spanish Duke of Ossuna, give this airy room an elegant look.

There are examples of 18th century and early 19th century decorative china, a collection of 18th century souverir patch boxes in the cabinets around the walls. The picture of the Three Graces painted on china is by the Hungarian Johannes Quast.

Among the notable paintings in the room are a country scene by by Jan Bruegel the younger (1601 - 1679) and a portrait of Lady Derwentwater in the style of Sir Godfrey Kneller. Lady Derwntwaters husband was a relative of the Forsters and was persuaded by her to join Gereral Tom Forester in the Jocobite uprising in 1715. He was captured and beheaded on the 24th February 1716.
