Constable Tower

Named after Claudius Forster, Bamburgh's appointed royal Constable and live-in keeper, Claudius was given the castle by James I in the 17th century.

Constable TowerOriginally the Vale Tipping Tower, the Constable Tower is opposite where the Porterhouse Tower once stood.

The Porter was an assistant to the constable or castle commander appointed by the King.

During the threatened Napoleonic invasion, the castle garrison was stationed here.
