The Gatehouse

Once named the Great Gatehouse, this narrow entrance into the castle was first built in the 12th century.

The GatehouseOriginally protected by a barbican and drawbridge over a rock moat, this east gate was heavily defended. The two gatehouse towers were altered and added to in the 18th century, but original Norman stonework is still visible.
