Join your guide, Ragnar Lundgren as he takes you on the journey of the real Uhtred the Bold, who defended his home of Bebbanburg, and managed to climb the ladder of power! He became allies with both Vikings and the King of England. On this tour you will learn about the start of England’s Viking era and its end. We shall compare the fantasy of the famous The Last Kingdom to the real history of Bamburgh. DESTINY IS ALL!!!

– The tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 30mins.
– Ragnar will available for 30 minutes after the tour to crown you Queen or King of Bebbanburg.
– We visit 4 parts of the castle grounds outside and 1 part of the castle inside (weather dependent). Please wear sensible footwear and clothing for the weather conditions.
– To enable you to get the most out of the tour, we recommend that you don’t visit the State Rooms of the castle before the tour begins.
– Crownings will be done inside the King’s Hall off-peak season. During peak season (May -Sept), crownings will be done on the stone throne outside the Keep.
– Dogs can join most of the tour but are not allowed inside the King’s Hall for the crownings
– When you approach admissions with your ticket, you will be provided with a lanyard to show you are attending this private event so please keep this visible at all times. Please ensure that you hand it back to Ragnar or a Bamburgh Castle staff member when the tour has finished
The tour is aimed at teenagers and adults that are fans of the Netflix series ‘The Last Kingdom’, the book series ‘The Saxon Stories’ by Bernard Cornwell.
Although the tour touches on ‘The Last Kingdom’, you do not need to have watched the series to enjoy the tour. The tour covers a vast array of Anglo-Saxon and Viking history which would appeal to any curious mind!
The West Ward, Bamburgh Castle. The West Ward is approximately a ten-minute walk from our car park. Please ensure you give yourself plenty of time to arrive at the castle. We recommend arriving at the castle 45 minutes prior to the tour start time.
Some of the terrain outdoors is uneven/steep. Unfortunately, this tour would not be suitable for those with limited mobility. This is an outdoor tour and we recommend checking the weather forecast on the day. Tours may be cancelled if extreme weather makes the site unsafe.
All Uhtred of Bebbanburg Tours will start at 11:30am. Tours will start promptly at the time mentioned.

Tour tickets include all day admission to Bamburgh Castle and admission to visit The Last Kingdom display. HHA members and annual pass holders can purchase a specific ticket for this event on arrival at the ticket office for an additional £19.75 (adult) and £8.10 (child)

Cancellations: Bamburgh Castle reserve the right to cancel this tour in the case of extreme weather conditions. If we do have to cancel a tour we will notify those booked as soon as possible via the email used when booking and alternative tour dates will be offered. Refunds will be offered if the ticket holder cannot attend an alternative date. We will not refund any travel costs associated with cancellations.
