Sadly, due to the high winds forecast, the Anglo-Saxon reenactment event is cancelled this weekend (24 - 26 May).

The group will be with us on other weekends this year, so please do check the Whats On page to see future dates!

Redcoats & Pirates Weekends at Bamburgh Castle

Step into 1770s as Bamburgh Castle transforms into a Georgian military encampment and pirate haven! This immersive weekend lets your family experience history with all five senses– from the boom of muskets to the smell of black powder in the air!

The Redcoat Experience:

Live like a soldier – Try on authentic uniforms, learn drill commands, and feel the weight of a Brown Bess musket

Camp life unveiled– Smell the woodsmoke from field kitchens and the earthy tang of leather equipment

Hear history– The rattle of cartridges, drum calls for muster, and the shouted orders of sergeants

True stories– Discover how soldiers lived on just 1lb of bread and 1oz of cheese per day!

“Surgeon’s Corner” – Witness (fake!) amputations with period tools – not for squeamish!

Trade and Commerce – discover how global trade shaped this turbulent period.

Family Activities:

Children’s Drill- Earn an official “Best Recruit” certificate

Twice-daily firing displays – the smell of the black powder.
