We are closing the State Rooms a little earlier on the 13th June due to a private event and last admission into the State Rooms will be at 2.30pm (rather than 4.15pm)
If you are visiting us on this date please ensure you enter the State Rooms before the door closes at 2.30pm

Clocktower Cafe and Tack Room will remain open as usual and visitors can still enjoy the Viking Market in the West Ward until 4.45pm but access will be restricted to the Inner Ward and Battery Terrace areas from 4.30pm onwards

History, Legends, and The Last Kingdom

Join guide Ragnar Lundgren on a fun and fascinating tour, where you will be exploring the real story behind Uhtred the Bold who sparked the inspiration for The Last Kingdom. Walk through the historic grounds of Bamburgh Castle, or as you know it, Bebbanburg and learn how Uhtred rose to power, fought Vikings, and served the King of England.

You’ll hear about the Viking era, explore real Anglo-Saxon history, and compare it with scenes from the hit series. Destiny is all!

  • Weather: Please dress for outdoor conditions; tours may be rescheduled in the event of extreme weather.


Ticket Prices:

  • Adult: £39.95

  • Child (5–16): £19.00

  • Under 5s: Free (with paying adult)

  • HHA members and annual pass holders: Event only ticket available at the castle ticket office (£20.00 adult / £9.00 child)


 Extra Details:

  • Depending on the season, crownings may take place in either the King’s Hall (during the off season) or alternatively, outside at the stone throne (May- Sep).

  • Dogs welcome on most of the tour, but not inside the King’s Hall

  • Lanyards will be provided at the gate to show you are part of the tour – please ensure this is visible at all times

⚠️ Accessibility & Cancellations:

  • Whilst exploring the grounds, visitors should note, that some paths become steep or uneven and therefore would not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

  • During extreme weather, tours may be cancelled for safety reasons. If Bamburgh Castle cancel a tour, we’ll help you move your tickets to a new date or provide a refund if rescheduling can’t be arranged.
