This May bank holiday, Acle Early Medieval Re-Enactment Society are returning to Bamburgh Castle to re-enact:

King Oswald and the Battle of Heavenfield!

The year is 633, and King Oswald has returned from exile to reclaim his Kingdom of Northumbria and take his seat at Bebbanburg.

But, as always, trouble is brewing…and Oswald must raise an army to fight off the Welsh! Under the leadership of the King of the Britons, Cadwallon ap Cadfan of Gwynedd, at the Battle of Heavenfield.

King Oswald is looking for keen volunteers to train with his warriors, and form an Army- are you brave enough to fight for the King and Northumbria?

Displays throughout the day of combat and living history, including hands-on activities for children to practice fighting against the warriors, strike their own coins, talk to the re-enactors in the West Ward, and listen to stories of the anglo Saxons at Bebbanburg.

There will also be demonstrations of cooking, weaving, embroidery, interactive games, and much more.

Our warriors will teach you about their weapons, and your little ones can take part in some combat.
