Admission on Saturday 13th June 2026 and Joust event info 20th and 21st June

Due to a private event, the State Rooms will close earlier than usual on Saturday 13 June. Last admission to the State Rooms will be at 2:30pm (instead of 4:15pm). Please ensure you enter before 2:30pm if you wish to visit this area.

The Clocktower Café, Tack Room and Viking Market in the West Ward will remain open as normal until 4:45pm. However, access to the Inner Ward and Battery Terrace will be restricted from 4:30pm onwards.

Please note: online tickets will not be available for this date. Tickets can be purchased on arrival at the admissions office.

20th and 21st June - please note tickets specifically purchased for the Joust event will be admitted to The West Ward for this event. The West Ward will be closed between 12pm and 1pm and only tickets for the Joust will be admitted from 1pm. General admission tickets will be allowed into The West Ward after 3pm once the event has finished.
If you purchase general admission tickets for either of these dates there is no guarantee you will have access to the Joust event

Ylva, married to Dag the Blacksmith has four troublesome children and is looking for a husband for your youngest. She’s not happy that Dag chose to settle in the North, there’s not as much trade as he expected particularly round the festive season.

Ormhildr has given up her warrior ways to help her trader husband Grinlyn set up trade routes in England. he has left her in northumbria and gone to constantinople to look for exotic goods fit for a king. Ormhildr has heard rumours of several hoards nearby and has made friends with Ylva to find them

Join Ylva and Ormhildr at Bamburgh Castle on various dates over the winter and learn about Viking history. They will be around the castle site giving talks and demonstrations, guaranteed to have you laughing as well as learning.

When: Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s from the 12th November to 18th December.
