Follow in the Footsteps of Uhtred at Bebbanburg with Ragnar

Join your guide, Ragnar Lundgren as he takes you on the journey of the real Uhtred the Bold who defended his home of Bebbanburg and managed to climb the ladder of power where his allies were both Vikings and the King of England. On this tour you will learn about the start of England’s Viking era and its end and we shall compare the fantasy of the famous Last Kingdom to the real history. Find out about a battle scene that was filmed in the area and become Queen or King of the North.

Important things to know about the tour:
– It lasts approximately 1 hour and 30mins plus 30 minutes for an overview of The Last Kingdom exhibition as well as crowning on the throne
– We visit 4 parts of the castle grounds outside and 1 part of the castle inside (weather dependent) Please ensure sensible footwear is worn and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions
– To enable you to get the most out of the tour, we recommend that you don’t visit the State Rooms of the castle before the tour begins

Who is the Tour for: The tour is aimed at teenagers and adults that are fans of the Netflix series ‘The Last Kingdom’, the book series ‘The Saxon Stories’ by Bernard Cornwell.

Although the tour touches on ‘The Last Kingdom’, you need not have watched the series to enjoy this tour. The tour covers a vast array of Anglo-Saxon and Viking history which would appeal to any curious mind!

 

Meeting Point: The West Ward, Bamburgh Castle. The West Ward is approximately a ten minute walk from our car park. Please ensure you give yourself plenty of time to arrive at the castle. We recommend arriving at the castle 45 minutes prior to the tour start time.

 

Accessibility:  Some of the terrain outdoors is uneven/steep. Unfortunately, this tour would not be suitable for those with limited mobility. This is an outdoor tour and we recommend checking the weather forecast on the day. Only under extreme weather conditions will a tour be cancelled.

Times: Please double check the tour start time on the booking page as tours can start at different times on different days. Tours will start promptly at the time shown.

 

Tickets: Tickets for the tour can be purchased online via our website. Tickets are for ages 5 and over. Under 5’s do not require a ticket for the tour but must be with one paying adult. Tour tickets include admission to Bamburgh Castle. HHA members and international visitors can purchase a tour ticket and admission to Bamburgh Castle from our onsite ticket office on the day of the tour.

Cancellations: Bamburgh Castle reserve the right to cancel this tour in the case of extreme weather conditions or for other reasons out of our control that mean the tour cannot go ahead. If we do have to cancel a tour we will notify those booked as soon as possible via the email used when booking. You will be offered an alternative tour date. Where this is not possible a full refund will be given. We will not refund any travel costs associated with cancellations.
